Pest Control Advice
I have listed below a selection of helpful tips to help you in the eradication of your nuisance pest.Should you require any further help please call one of our duty technicians on 07900 552697 and not the call centre.
Ants Kill the Queen kill the colony. Kitchen areas, pay particular attention underneath the kitchen units remove kick boards and saturate back of walls and floors with a good liquid spray. If a powder/dust is used a good dusting down is required. (personally I would use a liquid spray) as this will run into all the cracks and crevices. All other areas, try and find the entry exit point then apply treatment. See our Ant section for products.
Never spray or contaminate food preparation surfaces or utensils.
Bed Bugs are one of the most difficult and costly pests to eradicate you have to be ruthless in the treatment.Badly infested electrical goods, that they harbour in must be thrown away, torn mattress pillows etc have to be disposed of, any items removed from infested rooms pre-treatment must be bagged so as not to infest other areas of the house.Dusting powders only should be used in wall sockets and switches NO LIQUIDS OF ANY DESCRIPTION as there would be a risk of electrocution.
All bed frames should be soaked (liquid) with a appropriate insecticide paying particular attention to the underside of slats, holes in bed frames and all bed side cupboards, draws, wardrobes, chest of draws etc should be treated. All cracks & holes, gaps behind skirting boards etc should be treated nothing should be over looked, then finally give the floor surface regardless of material a good spray treatment.
Following treatment you must be vigilant, if you do incur further activity over the following days or weeks, repeat all of the above or call in a professional pest controller see our service section for details and prices. See our Bed Bug section for products.
Beetles a good liquid spray around margins or dusting (powder) in all cracks and crevices and any other dark areas should do the trick here, you could also consider placing insect traps at various locations in the property. See our Beetle section for products.
Carpet Beetles treatment is the same as for Beetles.except only carpet margins and under sideboards have to be treated. See our Carpet Beetle section for products.
Cockroaches like Bed Bugs are difficult to eradicate every potential harbourage should be treated with either a dust or liquid treatment, ducting, holes in walls power sockets etc (dusts or baits were there is electricity) liquids in all other areas, monitor activity using a roach monitors or insect glue boards, if problem persists repeat treatment or call in a professional. See our service section or See our Cockroach section for products.
Never spray or contaminate food preparation surfaces or utensils.
Dust Mites using one of the products available to you spray all carpet/fabrics mattresses etc. See Dust Mites section for products.
Fleas pre treatment you must remove as much of your belongings off the floor as possible even placing lighter furniture items on top of heavier items. You must then vacuum all surface areas paying attention to skirting boards, gaps between floor boards etc were Larva and adults Fleas can hide. Then apply a generous spray of the appropriate Flea treatment to all floor surfaces. See our Flea section for products.
Cluster Flies inhabits loft spaces and other voids over the winter months in large numbers, these can be treated using various products. i.e Fumers, aerosols and space sprays. In the house you could use Fly stickers, Fly strips, & Electronic Fly Killers. See our Fly section for products.
Lady Birds the treatments are similar to Flies find all harbourages and treat appropriately. They are more than likely to be in window frames & roof voids etc not in the house. See our section on ladybirds for products.
Moths/Clothes Moths aerosols and moth traps are best here. For Clothes Moths you could place a Sachet/ Moth Trap in your wardrobes and draws to kill any that are Harbouring or doing damage. See our moths section for products.
Wasps never try to treat in the heat of the day as the colony will be at its most active, early in the morning or at dusk, don't stand directly in there flight path (don't use a light of any kind) Treat the entry exit point gorgeously with your chosen product. I would use a treatment that can be applied from a distance. i.e aerosol based product. If in the loft space try to void treating from inside, you will be in a enclosed environment and with all the hazards you are more than likely to get stung. If in doubt leave it and get a professional. See our service section for details and see our Wasp section for products.
Woodlice like damp and dark areas treat all appropriate harbourages with a dusting powder or liquid. See our section on Woodlice for products.
WARNING
USE PESTICIDES SAFELY ALWAYS READ THE LABEL.
ALWAYS WEAR GLOVES AND A FACE MASK WHEN APPLING DUSTS OR SPRAY PRODUCTS
Rats & Mice harbour in our houses and work places over the winter months.Treatment is more or less the same except Mice need multiple point bait points, as these are multi point feeders, i.e they only take a small amount from each bait point, so the more you have the more they should take and the quicker they ingest a lethal dose of Rodenticide. You should for both species bait three dimensionally i.e all floors with multiple bait points, paying particular attention to the Kitchen, Airing Cupboard, Bath Room, Loft Space & and all other areas you feel there is activity. All open spaces tamper proof boxes should be used.
WARNING
YOU SHOULD ALWAYS READ THE LABEL AS BOTH RODENTICIDES AND INSECTICIDES CAN KILL NONE TARGET SPECIES IF USED INDISCRIMINATELY
